Heartbeats in Ink by Denise Alicea is a collection of 32 poems, most of them about love. The themes are generally positive and uplifting; they include topics such as romantic love, self-love, and even appreciating cats. The poems have a melodic rhythm to them. Most are written in rhyme, while a few are in free verse. They are also straightforward, which makes them easy to understand. They beautifully capture the different stages of life and loss, evoking a range of emotions with poems like Falling in Love, Crush, Hope, Enduring Love, and Love is Never Lost. Heartbeats in Ink by Denise Alicea is an ideal choice if you’re looking for a delightful read to curl up with.

I liked the happy, positive, and optimistic themes of the poems in Heartbeats in Ink by Denise Alicea. I also liked that the poems were easy to understand and not at all obscure. The poem called “Crush” truly depicts that heart-pounding, sweaty-palm feeling that comes when you are attracted to someone; this poem made me nostalgic. I also enjoyed “Sympathy,” which pointed out the importance of caring for others. My favorites were "I Will Believe" and "A Place at the Table." The latter calls for unity regardless of our differences in race, beliefs, etc. I truly think "I Will Believe" would make a great song; it is beautifully written. I immensely enjoyed reading Heartbeats in Ink; the poems offer a warm, fuzzy feeling that remains with you long after you’re finished reading.

Heartbeats In Ink by Denise Alicea is a collection of poems centered around love, happiness, hope, and perseverance. Denise uses metaphors drawn from celestial bodies, storms, and flames to symbolize the enduring nature of different kinds of love. The poems explore the joy of falling in love, as well as the growth of true and pure love, touching on topics like destiny and hope. The collection is not limited to romantic love, as it also covers love for life and dreams. The author mentions various other themes, including nature, ancestors, trials and adversities, and memories, and explores the embrace of sympathy, life's choices, peace, unity, and acceptance. Some of the poems describe a castle in the sky that travelers may discover and a brave woman who conquers all in the great unknown.

Heartbeats In Ink is a moving collection of poems that will make you feel the joy and pain of love. Denise Alicea covers various aspects of love including crushes, and deep, everlasting bonds, and encourages people going through challenges never to give up but to hold on to hope through all circumstances. This empowering message will resonate with people who feel alone and are ready to abandon their dreams and goals. The poems are well-organized and easy to understand, with each one stirring your emotions and sparking your imagination. The author's comparison of celestial bodies and forces of nature to love conveys the idea that love is not only powerful but also capable of withstanding the test of time and obstacles. Overall, this is a great collection of poems that I enjoyed, and I cannot wait to read more from this author.

Poetry is always best when the words come straight from the depths of the heart. In Heartbeats in Ink, Denise Alicea opens her heart to share her passion and emotions with the reader through her words. We don’t know the situations from which these magical words arise; however, we do know that some emotional event prepared the fertile soil from which these sprouted. Your heart will beat with Denise’s heart as you read these inspiring words. The poems deal with many emotions, including love, change, hope, courage, etc. The emotions in these poems will resonate with you and allow you to feel the same feelings. Denise has written a truly amazing book of poems. Humanity is filled with shared emotions, and this book shows how we all share human nature.

My sixth- and seventh-grade teacher (yes, the same teacher) taught me everything about poetry: how to appreciate and write poems. She would be very proud of Denise Alicea’s Heartbeats in Ink as Denise hits every note at just the right pitch. Lesser poets might try to contrive rhymes, but Denise is a master at natural rhyming. She shares her emotions from the deepest part of her heart and is transparent. This book has no illustrations because all the pictures you need are painted with her beautiful words. The poems will grab you differently as you read, but your emotions will be deeply touched. I highly recommend this book to be added to your library. This is the best poetry book I have read in years. Thank you, Denise, for sharing your heart with us.
