Author Biography

George M. Eberhart holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio State University (1973) and a master's degree in library science from the University of Chicago (1976). He was employed as a magazine editor for many years by the American Library Association in Chicago but retired in 2020. Eberhart became interested in UFOs, cryptozoology, and history growing up in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and Columbus, Ohio. Since 1985 he has served on the board of the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies in Chicago.

Adventures of a Footloose Hippie by George M. Eberhart is an inspirational memoir about traveling around the world in a time when everything seemed easier and more laid back, and the social aspect of human interaction was more valued than in today's fast world of advanced technology. This book captivatingly describes the author’s many travels around Europe, the UK, and the USA, while capturing the essence of different places around the world. The narrative structure consists of diary entries divided into three parts, written in the seventies. He describes his personal adventures with people, places, and events revolving around him, often offering humorous moments experienced through enlightening interactions with other travelers.

George M. Eberhart's writing style evokes the spirit and the atmosphere of the times when he was in his twenties and it speaks of a different way of life. From crashing in a used car to hitchhiking from one country to another and meeting all sorts of people along the way, Eberhart warmly relives his memories and gives updated references of the places he has visited, people he interacted with where possible, evoking nostalgia for simpler, more entertaining and courageous times. Adventures of a Footloose Hippie is a wonderful and heartfelt adventure into the past, which takes the reader on a trip down memory lane, providing excitement, fun, and an occasional life lesson every step of the way. This book will appeal to those readers who might seek more out of life, and who enjoy a significantly colorful take on traveling and history.
