Author Biography

Born and raised in Georgia, Joyce Mitchell has been blessed with a wonderful husband, two children and three grandchildren.

She has written one novel, Unheard Cries:A Marriage Horror, several short stories and currently working on a sequel to Unheard Cries. Joyce's professional career was working with the Social Security Administration, and U. S. Army Corps of Engineers for many years, but her passion was to teach children,so she left her primary career and began a new one teaching in a Christian school. She also helps with homeschool, transporting underprivileged children to skating rinks, libraries, and field trips.

The novel, Unheard Cries, was inspired by true events. Because of haunting childhood memories, she decided it was time to write her book, then she let her imagination run, which she loves. She hopes her readers will be inspired also.

Unheard Cries:A Marriage Horror is realistically written in a southern setting probably in the lower sector of society. It tells of a woman who starts her choices as a school girl in staying with a man who disrespects everything and cherishes nothing. Joyce Mitchell writes a completely convincing tale of domestic violence that has no boundaries, of infidelity so blatant it is simply shocking; of surviving, day in and day out, worrying if the next breath from the lungs will be the thing to set him off. It is easy to become completely engrossed in this circular tale of humanity at its saddest, ugliest moments. While the ending did not have quite as much detail and seemed to end rather abruptly, in hindsight I felt it suited the tone of the story- especially the events towards the end of the book.

It is not an easy theme to write, domestic violence. It is one of those things that few truly understand unless they, too, have had some sort of experience with it. I have no idea if this is the case with the author but whatever her background, she does a fantastic job building the characters whether they be victim or aggressor. My favorite part of the story was the setting of the two family owned stores. I felt as though I could get in my car and drive to them, step on the wooden porch steps and enter the world that I just read about!
