A Call To Reform: Sustaining America's Unique Culture by Stephen P. Fish is a bipartisan look at America's culture and how to keep it alive. If you're thinking this is a one-sided affair pitting parties and philosophies against each other, you're mistaken. Fish is talking about all of America, and what it would take to bring about changes that will keep our uniqueness yet be inclusive of others. After all, America is founded on differences and multiculturalism.

Politics can be divisive, which turns some people on and some people off, so I like Fish's attitude that America works better when we use the best of both parties and consider the ideas of everyone. It's clear that the author knows his subject and is passionate about history, politics, and American ideals. He admits that some of the old methods aren't working anymore and need to be reformed. I especially like how he puts human rights at the top of the list and offers real-world solutions, not just half-baked theories. If you've looked around the last few years and realize something needs to change but feel that you don't know what to do or that the challenges are too great, Fish has some exciting, doable ideas that will help--solutions that will please almost everyone.

Not everyone will agree with this book, and it may be controversial or unattainable to some, but it can open a sorely needed dialogue amongst American citizens because endless debate and backbiting do not solve anything. Action is needed, and this is what Fish offers. It would be nice to have a book like this in classrooms, or for those looking for American history and its founding fathers in a nutshell. If you seek answers from a respectful, comprehensive viewpoint, don't miss A Call To Reform: Sustaining America's Unique Culture by Stephen P. Fish.
