Alexi Ellis, an attractive, quick-thinking brunette, lost her job at the Sentinel. So she sold her deceased mother's condo, collected her hard-won severance package and drove to Lambourne, a respectable town known for horse racing. But her sabbatical with her pregnant friend Cheryl and her husband Drew, the owners of Hopwood House hotel becomes her next assignment. When she learns that Cheryl's friend, Natalie Parker, is missing, the street-smart sleuth grabs Marvin, her idiosyncratic tom cat, and forms a partnership with Tyler Maddox, a 62-year-old former cop turned private investigator. After they hack Natalie's email, find $1,000 monthly deposits in her bank account and realize she was adopted, they discover that Natalie was a highly paid escort. But no one was prepared to learn the identity of her killer and the horrible truth that led to her untimely death.

A Date to Die For by Wendy Soliman started slowly but became a fast-paced read. It was the epitome of a good murder mystery. This page-turner kept me guessing; the tension was perfect. I was entertained with the genuine dialogue and colorful characters. The setting of Lambourne worked nicely with the plot. Wendy Soliman is truly a prolific writer with a never-ending list of historical and crime novels; Mrs. Darcy Entertains series, Forsteries series, etc. Her passion for history is evident in her stories based on exotic locales and history-making events. A Date to Die For is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys award-winning fiction.
