From there, readers rejoin Torhan and Katara who are continuing their quest to awaken Sybil, the little girl held by a priest because she has the ability to control animals. Their journey takes them through many quests within quests, because everybody wants something before they can obtain the Amulet of REM. After many trials and tribulations with settling scores, setting souls free, and keeping each other alive, the story catches up with Jacko and Breen hot on the trail of the deadly assassin responsible for his teacher's death. They find him in the town of Snowdrift, while their monk companion is in the healer's care after a snow leopard attack nearly ends his life. While traveling to find his friend, Torhan is also torn up pretty badly. The two friends are finally reunited, and join forces to wreak vengeance on Slyantom the Half Fox.
