Author Biography

MaryAnn Clarke is a Chatelaine Grand Prize winner and Next Generation Indie Book Award finalist for The Art of Enchantment, first in the Life is a Journey series about young women on journeys abroad who discover themselves and fall in love while getting embroiled in someone else’s problems. Her Having it All series is about professional women struggling to balance the challenge and fulfillment of their careers with their search for identity, love, family and home.
Always eager to fill blank pages and empty canvases with ideas swirling in her head, MaryAnn set out to write emotionally engaging stories that walk a tight rope between intelligent Women’s Fiction and heart-warming Romance.
A polymath who studied Fine Arts, Urbanism, Architecture and Gerontology at university on both coasts of Canada, she turned to her first love, writing stories, when she realized she could have more fun with fewer rules as an author, than working as an architect, or in a university as a researcher. When not writing, she meditates while hiking wooded mountain trails, does yoga and Pilates to fend off decrepitude, reads eclectically, contemplates wormholes, experiments with painting abstract expressionism, kills plants and tries not to burn dinner while solving her next plot problem. Now that her chick has flown the coop, Clarke lives on beautiful Vancouver Island, Canada with her husband and cats. Although she knows she lives in Paradise, she still loves traveling the world in search of romance, art, good food and new story ideas.

A Forged Affair is the second book in the Life is a Journey series by MAF Clarke Scott and a great story for readers looking for mild romance and adventure. Adventurous and a woman with a large heart, Nikki Ballantyne is a workaholic — and she works in search and rescue — who is consumed by guilt after the tragic death of her brother. When her boss insists she takes a vacation, a holiday to the south of France offers her the best summer getaway and there she meets Luc and his giant friend Didier. Didier reminds her of Sam, her deceased brother. While she is very attracted to Luc, she finds it hard to admit her feelings. She is adventurous, but she feels the need to protect her heart, so she grows closer to Didier, a man who is bullied a lot for his size. But an emergency will put her in a very vulnerable position. Can she risk the one thing she’s always protected — her heart?

The writing is atmospheric and in a way it reflects the feisty character of the protagonist. The author captures scenic views in the writing and floods the reader’s mind with beautiful imagery. A Forged Affair is beautifully paced, focused, and the points of view come out neatly. I enjoyed the way the personality of Nikki is depicted in the narrative, an outgoing woman who quickly learns to partake in festivities and enjoy life. The suspense is great as the reader turns the pages, waiting to see what will become of Luc and Nikki. This is a great story filled with fun and very entertaining moments.
