A Good Lie by JL Bowers started with Anna Bradley waking up on the grass with clusters of trees around her. She has a terrible headache, with no idea where she is or how she got there. She started remembering passing a bright yellow house when she went for a run earlier. When she got home, her husband gave her one of her favorite mineral waters. She wants to get home and find her husband, and see if he is maybe tied up and hurt. She started walking but she is in Afton State Park, 20 miles east of St Paul where she lives. In the parking lot, she met Kathy and Barb who gave her a ride back to her home. She asked them to drop her off two blocks from her house. She started walking home and found the doors locked. She looked through the windows, but the house was empty with no sign that anyone lived there at all.

The story begins with two different events coming together in A Good Lie by JL Bowers. The story is suspenseful and fast-paced with a thrilling plot; the tension makes it very powerful. The characters were well developed, each with their character traits. Anna had just lost her mother and was vulnerable, but stood up for herself when it was necessary. Frank was a retired ranger and was ready to save his family when they are threatened. Todd got a case that could save his struggling business. However, will he be prepared to do things not by the book? I could relate to the characters and felt as if I was part of the investigation team. A Good Lie was unpredictable and there was always a surprise turn waiting for me. It was well written and managed to exceed my expectations and was truly nothing at all that I expected.
