A King's Bargain: A Sword & Sorcery Adventure (Legend of Tal #1) is an epic fantasy by J.D.L. Rosell. Tal Harrenfel is a mysterious hero recognized by the king himself. His heroic deeds are renowned far and wide. One day the legendary Tal returns to his home village, taking on a new identity in hopes of distancing himself from his well-known past. In his home village, Tal, currently known as Bran the chicken farmer, meets a boy named Garin. The two of them become traveling companions, along with Aelyn, when the king summons Tal back to his old life. Join them in their adventures as they try to survive through the forces against them and navigate webs of lies and deceit.

J.D.L. Rosell has created an impressive fantasy world in A King's Bargain. A tale with differing perspectives and filled with characters that have intricate personalities, seamlessly blending into a complex plot. Tal is a mysterious character and the further I read into the story, the more I wanted to know about him. He carries a heavy reputation on his shoulders and just when he thought he was finally able to escape it, he is brought back by the summons from the king. He has regrets and would prefer to have just lived his life peacefully, but unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be in the cards for someone like him. His companion, the village boy, Garin, grows during their journey. At first, he was but a boy who dreamed of becoming a hero and traveling, but you can really see from their adventures that he learns a lot and his experiences allow him to grow as a person.

Reading Legend of Tal was an exciting experience. I felt that I was with Tal and his companions as they traveled across the kingdom and tried to find the traitor. The story captivated me from start to finish with its twists and turns. I found the story to be well-written, the fantastical setting and the creatures were fascinating, and the characters were distinctive, each unique and substantial in their roles. J.D.L. Rosell shows great attention to detail and because of that has managed to create such an intriguing and exceptional book! Great job!
