A Line In The Sand by Al & Joanna Lacy is the first story in the trilogy, The Kane Legacy. The story begins in Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1834. The Kane’s are Irish descendents, tall, rugged, and strong. Their faith is even stronger, and they live what they believe. Abram is the Bareknuckle Champion of the Boston Harbor Docks, where he and his four sons work on the dock.

Alan Kane does not want to spend the rest of his life working on the docks. He heard that Steven Austin was giving each family or single man 640 acres. The excitement quickly spread throughout the family. Adam, Abram and Angela soon follow, eager to build new lives at the Circle C Ranch. There were rumors of war in Texas. Colonel William Travis needs men to fight Mexico. Alan and Adam answer the call. At the Alamo , they meet Davy Crocket and Jim Bowie. The Kane’s would have to fight to protect their new home from Mexico’s General Santa Ana.

A Line In The Sand by Al and Joanna Lacy is like taking a step back in time. The plot is well- developed and fast paced. The story is simple and easy to read. The characters are pleasant and very likable. Angela is selfless, taking care of her ill mother. Abram, the patriarch, of the family has taught his children morals. I like this book; it is refreshing to read a good romance that is written from a Christian perspective, showing strong moral values.

Barbara Warren

Alan Kane, works on the docks in Boston, with his father and brothers. The others seem satisfied with their jobs unloading freight, but Alan has dreams of being a cattle rancher in Texas. The family is devastated when his mother dies, and Alan leaves for Texas with William Childress who has offered him a job. Texas is in turmoil. A battle with General Santa Anna of Mexico is looming. Adam, Alan's brother, moves to be with him, and they join the rest of the Texas men in defending their land.
Al Lacy and his wife Joanna have several books to their credit.A Line In The Sand shows the reader what it was like during the time leading up to the Alamo.
