A Little Touch of Cancer and How It Made Me Well: One Woman's Travels through Ovarian Cancer by Betsy Horn is an inspiring memoir about one long courageous journey from the brink of death to a happy, transformed life. This poignant real-life story starts with Horn in crisis mode; middle-aged, divorced, too busy following her cabaret-singer dreams, angry and experiencing relationship issues with her kids. As if life was not complicated enough, her female instincts warn her that a persistent ovarian cyst is about to change her future. The diagnosis unleashes a range of emotions, but rather than give in to defeat, Horn rises to overcome it by taking control of her chaotic life. The detailed story in twenty-one chapters follows her life from childhood through present, but focuses more on her changing attitudes and chronicles her self-discovery.

Betsy Horn wrote A Little Touch of Cancer and How It Made Me Well: One Woman's Travels through Ovarian Cancer to help other women struggling with cancer to move past being mentally stuck and become partners in their own treatments. What struck me most was Horn’s ability to live a gracious life, knowing that the cancer could return. Her personal insights, wisdom from experience and positive attitude are motivational and extraordinary. If you want to know about the process of healing mind, body and spirit and what kinds of traditional and complementary medical choices are available, then this book is a winner. A powerful read for any ovarian cancer support group where the message is one of hope.
