A Magical World Becomes the Night is a colorful children’s picture book, written in rhyme and illustrated by Lori Chown. During the day, we see many different animals, but some animals only come out when it is night time. The landscape comes alive with fireflies, moths, bats, owls and more beneath the glow of the moon, the stars and the Northern Lights of the Arctic. If you are lucky enough, you can also see one or two planets in the evening sky. When we sleep, that is sometimes when all of the activity happens outside in the animal world.

I loved the innocence within the beauty of these wonders of nature, presented so colorfully in order to truly capture the eye of the reader. The illustrations are drawn in such a way that these create a curiosity which would otherwise never grow amongst our children. Whether their interest is on the ground, in the air or in our solar system, Lori Chown has created an educational book filled with some of the most beautiful gems that nature has to offer. I couldn’t stop smiling at seeing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis/Revontulet) included in nature’s mesmerizing miracles – something I see in the skies of Finland for most of the year. I very much enjoyed reading A Magical World Becomes the Night and recommend it to be read to younger audiences aged 4-7, so that they can slowly discover and learn to appreciate the different species and incredible wonders which surround them, even as they sleep.
