Author Biography

Nancy Beaule is the author of the children's picture book series, Chompy & the Munchy Bunch. The series has evolved into five books, with the sixth planned for late 2021. It is a light-hearted action filled series but also teaches a lesson. Volume four, The Greasy Chip, was a finalist in the RPLA awards, and Volume five, A Peek Under the Big Top, won Silver at the 2020 awards show.

Her passion for healthy eating spawned the idea for a carrot who gets superpower eyesight from a drink made from carrots. When Chompy drinks Chompy Juice, his eyes "pop" and he can see through walls and trees, often rescuing the ever mischievous Candybar who usually finds himself in a perilous situation.

Nancy's path to writing is a bit unorthodox, having spent the last 30 years as an entrepreneur/inventor. She has a natural tendency towards creation, from starting a print shop to inventing the Pie Saver and a pizza/lasagna hybrid called pizzania. She felt the time was right to try her hand at writing, and is also in the final editing stage of her first young adult novel, The Joker's Revenge. She has two children and three grandchildren and lives in Maine and Florida with her husband. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, biking, hiking, fishing and just about anything outdoors.

A Peek Under The Big Top is written by Nancy Beaule and Illustrated by Lauren Goldstein. Chompy, Salt, Spud, and Cookie are all excited about the circus being in town. Candybar, one of the gang’s friends, doesn’t want to go. The rest know that if they volunteer to help at the circus they can get free tickets to the show. From selling popcorn to stamping hands at the door, there seems to be no shortage of jobs to do at the circus. The job Chompy is selected for has him cringing in fear of one of the performers. Knowing his own fears, Chompy wonders if Candybar dislikes the circus because of a similar fear. Will Chompy face his fears so that he can have fun at the circus? Is Candybar afraid too? What are the pair afraid of, and why?

A Peak Under The Big Top by Nancy Beaule is a delightful story that sheds light on the fact that everyone is afraid of something. The characters in this book are fun and relatable as they discover that the two of them have the same fear. I love how Beaule has woven a relevant message through the story, dealing with the importance of facing fears so that they don’t seem so scary. The illustrations by Lauren Goldstein are bright, colorful, and fun as they complement the story with beautiful pictures. I recommend this story to anyone with children, especially those with a fear that can easily be resolved by facing it.
