A Squid for Mr. Calaway by Joseph Grammer is definitely a unique story. The short story focuses on Mr. Calaway and his fondness for squid. While walking home, Mr. Calaway comes across a friend and they begin to discuss many things about life.

Joseph Grammer has the most bizarre imagination of any author I have read. I am not saying this is a bad thing, just a unique thing. A Squid for Mr. Calaway is a story that I will not soon forget. Nor will I ever look at a squid the same way again. Part of me understands Mr. Calaway’s obsession with squid since I have a similar obsession with coffee. However, I hope to never become as obsessed as Mr. Calaway. The majority of the story takes place on a street corner with Mr. Calaway talking to his friend Barry Donoghey. Both Mr. Calaway and Barry are odd characters. Their oddness is what brings this story together. The ending of this story was a little bit of a surprise and I had to read it again to make sure that I understood it correctly. This story has also made me become more aware of the foods that people enjoy and how they enjoy them.

Joseph Grammer has written several other stories, all with the same cool artwork on the cover of the book. If those stories are as zany as A Squid for Mr. Calaway, then I need to read them all so I will have more things to ponder about while trying to fall asleep at night.
