Abandoned by Jesse Hyland is a story of survival, fighting the odds, and triumphs. Samuel Levi was involved with some very dangerous men who dealt in weapons and drugs, to name a few. Completely alone in the world, Sam knew that mingling with these men was going to bite him in the butt, and indeed it did. So, when they thought Sam had duped them, they blindfolded him and dumped him in the blistering outback. With no water and food, a wounded Sam tried to survive and woke up one day in a bed. Trying to turn his life around, Sam was desperate to leave the past behind and live once again. However, when his past came knocking on his door, Sam realized he would need to face his past head-on or else it would destroy everything he held dear.

In the aptly named Abandoned, author Jesse Hyland created a story that I would love to see on the big screen. The descriptions were fantastic and so very transportive. I felt like I was right there beside Sam as he struggled to survive and rebuild his life around his new reality. I love it when authors open their stories with intense action and Abandoned did exactly that. I loved Sam because he wasn’t perfect; he made some very bad decisions and each one cost him a lot. I felt bad for Vincent and wanted a better ending for him, but this novel was realistic, and some people are not destined for a happy ending. Sam’s growth was fantastic. He survived the harshest of environments and became a man he could be proud of. The narrative was fantastic, the pace was fast, and the overall feel of the novel was enjoyable!
