"Adventures with Buster" is a warm, personal invitation to experience the relationship between a ‘Goldador’ guide dog named Buster and the legally blind human he serves, author London Lake Pickett. The story begins with Pickett and Buster’s first meeting at the training academy where he was raised and prepared for service and continues through Buster’s integration into the Pickett family and various school, church and travel adventures. In every chapter, Buster wins friends and increases awareness of the unique and wonderful bond between guide dog and handler. The language is informative and engaging in precisely the way a good teacher’s lessons should be, the pleasant result being that, at the end of the book, the reader has learned a great deal and has had fun the whole time. Websites and e-mail and ‘snail mail’ addresses sprinkled throughout the book add a marvelous interactive component that will keep the reading adventure alive for children long after the last page has been turned.

Just like its endearing canine hero, "Adventures with Buster" is easy to love. The challenges Buster and London face each day are presented with a good-humored honesty that is both refreshing and inspiring. "Adventures with Buster" would be a marvelous teaching tool for any classroom or a delightful conversation starter at any church or community gathering. London Lake Pickett has provided an enchanting chronicle of canine companionship and the blessings that have come from challenges that many would otherwise see as adversity.
