Douglas Tanner has been writing since fifth grade when he began sharing his stories with friends. His first story was about a monster attack on Halloween night. He lives in Kansas City with his wife, son, two daughters, a wise old schnoodle named Snuffleupagus (Snuffy for short), and a yappy little toy poodle named Zoey.
Doug once developed a really bad sunburn from driving a motorcycle all day in only a pair of gym shorts (bad idea). His love of monsters began after watching old scary movies on TV with his grandfather on Saturday nights. Doug loves studying the Bible, reading classic adventure novels and old comics, spending time with family, and snorkeling in the ocean.

Alec Kerley and the Roar of the Dinosaur by Douglas Tanner is a fast-paced, exciting read about a journey not quite to the center of the earth, but close enough. While working for S.T.O.K.E.R., a top secret organization that finds monsters, a group of kids, their teacher and some of their parents fall through the ground in a massive cave-in. All but one of the rescuers believe they are lost forever, but the group finds their way to an underground river which sweeps them down, down, down to a land before time where there are dinosaurs and other hungry, prehistoric life forms. Unfortunately, it looks like the werewolf they were chasing when they fell in might also have survived. The kids and adults have to battle for their lives as they try to figure out a way to get home before they are torn apart by dinosaurs.
I haven’t enjoyed a book quite this much in a long time. Author Douglas Tanner deserves membership in an elite club with the likes of Rick Riordan, Brandon Mull and John Flanagan. Alec Kerley and the Roar of the Dinosaur is book three in the Monster Hunter series and my only complaint is that there was not enough explanation at the beginning to set up the story if one has not read the other books, which I now plan to read. The prologue is a little long, so it was a tad difficult to get started. But then, you'd better grab hold of something -- it’s a wild ride! At the end of the book there are some unresolved plot elements, so it looks like the series will continue. Alec Kerley and the Roar of the Dinosaur is Christian fiction, but it is not at all heavy-handed and, frankly, it is hard to imagine anyone NOT praying when confronted with a hungry T-Rex! There is mortal danger, blood and gore, and kids will love it. Adults, too.
