Alex's Adventures in Wonderland by Lia Bebelia and Christine P. Flores is a briskly-paced tale with a lot of fun and inspiration for young readers, the story of Alex who can’t understand why his family isn’t like any other, why it is just him and and his mom. Follow him on a life-changing adventure with a mysterious friend in quest of answers. Themes of magic, family, love, and adventure are intelligently developed into story, infusing it with a deep sense of humanity. The story is narrated by a beautiful feminine voice with appropriate music in the background, setting the tone for the atmosphere.
Here is a lovely story that explores the thoughts of children born into unusual family situations, and while the author explores the curiosity in the protagonist, the narrative is skillfully done to awaken the sense of emotion in youngsters. Alex is like many young characters — curious, bubbly, and excited. I shared this audio book with my seven-year-old son and he listened to it until he fell asleep. Early this morning, he spoke to me about Alex and asked if he was real. “Would you like to become his friend?” I asked. “Yeah. He is cool!” The questions that followed were just a stunning reflection of the world and soul of the protagonist of this book. Lia Bebelia and Christine P. Flores have created a story that will entertain both young and adult readers. The prose is great, the plot interesting, and the story a beautiful ride. Alex's Adventures in Wonderland is one of those little gems for young readers and fans of the genre, an emotionally rich tale with a memorable protagonist.
