Amanda's Dream by Shelley Admont is an educational book for kids with both a good story as well as a message. Amanda is a young girl who has everything; a loving family, big house, beautiful bedroom decorated with all her favorite things and the sun's rays coming in through her window. But none of these make her happy and she is always sad. Amanda knows she is looking for something deeper. She is approached by a beautiful woman, a dream fairy, and Amanda confides to her that she wants to have a dream which came true like her friends. With the help of the dream fairy, Amanda finds out what she wants in life and the book tells readers how Amanda works passionately towards her goal. The book has a beautiful message of believing in oneself and holding onto one's dreams.
The story is beautifully executed and will inspire young readers to pursue their dreams and work hard towards making it happen. The illustrations are bright and colorful and make the characters and scenes come alive. The way Amanda works to make her dream of being a school Chess Champion is indeed inspirational and it also motivates readers to try harder to achieve their goals. The book is perfect for read aloud sessions in schools and classrooms. Parents and grandparents can also use it for bedtime reading. The story teaches the value of perseverance and how Amanda never gave up until she made her dream come true.
