An Unexpected Temptation by Sophie Barnes is a heartwarming historical romance filled with messages of love and forgiveness. At the age of fourteen, Lady Athena Townsbridge stood up in church and stopped the woman her brother loved from marrying another man. It was the right thing to do but Lady Athena can’t help feel some guilt over her actions. Her brother lost his best friend and her life was ruined. No one wanted to marry an outrageous young miss like her despite her considerable dowry. For Lord Robert Carlisle, Marquess of Darlington, the embarrassing wedding incident was the worst of all his recent bad luck. His first fianceé ran off with his cousin. The second, one he’d chosen for convenience, had loved another. And now Lady Athena forces her way into his house, demanding that she be allowed to make amends.
The couple in An Unexpected Temptation is just spectacular. Lady Athena was a woman born ahead of her time. Even her family didn’t quite understand her. That failing is responsible for her greatest mistakes but also her brightest moments. She was fearless once she decided to do something. She is the kind of unconventional heroine any modern-day woman likes to emulate. An Unexpected Temptation shows the kind of damage acting without thinking can cause. It also shows the incomparable power of love. Robert Carlisle was perfect. At first, he wasn’t willing to listen but gradually realized that Athena is different and that’s not such a bad thing. An Unexpected Temptation is Book 5 in The Townbridges series. I recommend this book and Sophie Barnes for her lovely writing style.
