Anthemic: The Expression of Divine by Eric Sanchez is a brave and confident book about the Supremacy and Divinity of God and one person’s response to Him and life. The book is divided into 62 short verses/poems which are meditations, conversations or prayers – each sharing a theme, lesson or response. Through these sections the author writes of God as Creator, Savior, friend and life companion, counselor and judge, and describes a Christian’s response to life and his Maker. The meditations are Biblically based and echo Biblical teachings.

Anthemic means something that arises from within, and unites and invites others to share in its beauty and power. This is a fitting title, then, for a book through which the author shares insights, a life journey, faith and love, and longing for God. The language is beautiful and inspirational, often psalm-like. Written from the heart, it contains a compelling and poetic message with which many will identify – a longing to know God better and to live in tune with Him, an acknowledgement of the Creator’s power, love, attention and purpose for each person. They remind us that we are precious, that God does not compare us but accepts us as we are and keeps us safe. There is so much comfort and encouragement in this book: “You’ve hidden me away in Yourself...I was never meant to carry my burden, But for You to carry it for me.” (Poem 55).

I especially like the view of the Creator as being in everything: “The Mountains are like You. Throughout this journey, we’ve been walking on You all along” (54) and the way the author describes our innate connection with God: “I am your deepest thought And even in the absence of my awareness my soul thinks of you” (17).

In Anthemic: The Expression of Divine, Eric Sanchez shares a courageous, honest and freeing faith and certainty, making this a beautiful and profound book. I found it inspirational and encouraging and it is sure to speak to Christians and those seeking spiritual encouragement in life.
