Arias Archer & The Shadow Cloak is a work of fantasy fiction aimed at middle grade and young adult readers, which was penned by author Hamzah Malik. When his sister Kara has her soul stolen on the night before her thirteenth birthday, her brother Arias is determined to save her, no matter the danger. His adventure takes him into Falasia, the realm of lost souls, where a terrifying villain by the name of King Kazzabus prepares to trap Kara in that world forever. So begins an epic journey through a fantasy world filled with deadly monsters and even deadlier allies which Arias must partner with if he wants to succeed.

This is truly an epic read for its age range, but every page is worth it on the incredible journey which author Hamzah Malik weaves for his characters. For fans of old-school fantasy classics like Narnia and Harry Potter, the book is filled with magical treasures and suspenseful battles with beasts and clever creatures, but there’s also a thoroughly modern sensibility to the narrative with regard to the trend of helping kids deal with life issues through fiction. Malik weaves pertinent themes about mental health, family life and the nature of the soul into his action-packed narrative so that when you reach the plot’s epic conclusion, there’s also a true sense of emotional satisfaction for the characters and their issues too. Overall, Arias Archer & The Shadow Cloak is a superb fantasy work for children around ten and up, and will become a fast favorite, I’m sure.
