Daniel Weisbeck takes his readers into a grim future world where the human race is on the brink of extinction, with the remaining souls living in isolation behind the walls of three Sanctuary cities in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. When the threat of a pandemic caused by the FossilFlu virus manifests itself inside the Sanctuary of Asia, the government expects its citizens’ cooperation to save the human race. Mandatory immunity testing has now been widened to include those individuals that are forty and older. Those with negative immunity results are invited to participate in the Ascension program, making forty-one-year-old Liza a prime candidate. The only problem is, Liza wants no part of it because she has too much to live for in the form of Henry. Henry Ford can’t live without the woman he loves and has a plan to save Liza but it’s a risky one…

Ascension is a science fiction novella by Daniel Weisbeck that packs a powerful punch as it gives readers a glimpse into what could be the human race’s reality given the COVID pandemic in which we currently live. Ascension grabs the reader’s attention from the first paragraph. Weisbeck creates an alternate universe that is sadly all too relatable with its references to masks and a world run by artificial intelligence. There’s a profound sense of urgency conveyed by the narrative that’s utterly irresistible and although Weisbeck’s world is over a hundred years into the future, there are enough references to our present that give it a realistic edge. A prequel to the novel Oasis One, the second book in the Children of the Miracle series, Ascension is a fast-paced novella that is hauntingly relevant to the times in which we currently live.
