Aspects of Love by Margaret Montrose Aphrodite is an offering of love, a collection of short stories that will invite readers to open the petals of their souls to a new energy and to enjoy stories that are as entertaining as they are refreshing. In these short stories, the author demonstrates an effusion of imagination, one that will make readers believe the extension of Mary Magdalene’s life, how the Renaissance came to be, and a lot more. It’s the life that flows through these stories — whether they are about love or war, or a very mundane event taking place in some obscure corner of the world — that will seduce readers beyond measure.

I loved how the writing mimics the way the characters speak, reflects their background, and plunges the reader in that oh-so-natural world in which the stories are set. Listen to this passage from “Stille Nacht” and measure the ordinariness and beauty of expression: ‘Frans Gruber smiled, as he swirled ideas around in his head. “Well we’ve got Hans on his guitar, he’s pretty good ’n I’ve got an idea, Jurgen.” “I’ve got a little tune”, he mused dreaming of what had spawned its conception, “I cooked up after I’d been dancing in the town to one of those dangerous new Waltzes — very catchy — a pretty frau had asked me to dance, it was lovely — made my feet twinkle, and something else besides.”’ The entire work reels with such beauty of language that will have readers enthralled.

Margaret Montrose Aphrodite is a master of the short story and her tales are intelligently construed with interesting characters and a plot structure that makes the stories irresistible. Aspects of Love is heartwarming and many readers will find themselves laughing at the humor, contemplating the mystery, fantasizing about love, and reaching out beyond themselves as they read the entire collection, each story at a time. This collection surely has something for everyone.
