Babies of Two by Kim Gosselin and Alisa Belzil is a colorful picture book story. Unborn twins Maddie and Mollie are safe and snug inside Mom’s tummy. The months have gone by and the two are beginning to run out of room. Mollie gets an accidental kick from Maddie, and Maddie sees there is no more room for growth. Meanwhile, Mom and Daddy are excitedly getting ready for their babies’ arrival. The twins have never known anywhere else, but the day arrives when nature takes its course and the girls emerge into their new world. Then, side by side, they embark on their newborn lives.

Babies of Two is a sweet and beautifully presented story and would be ideal for young children awaiting the arrival of twin siblings. It would be a treasure of a story to share with twins too, showing them how they grew and arrived together. I loved the innocence and sense of fun in the story as the girls enjoy their secure and nurturing environment. A sense of anticipation is built with the parallel story of their parents awaiting the big day and journeying to the hospital. The text and pictures convey the birth in a clever, simple and delightful way for young children to grasp, giving an opportunity for talking about babies in general.

‘Slowly Maddie and Mollie twirled and swirled toward a wonderful new world. The babies’ heads slid head-first, passing all they had ever known before… "I’ll wait for you on the other side!" Maddie cheered.’

Although not written in rhyme, there is a poetic aspect to the words which creates a gentle and soothing story. The color illustrations on each page depict the characters well and complement the story perfectly - my favorite is the one of the parents cradling their newborns. A loving and nurturing story for families with young children. Recommended.

Babies of Two
"Where do babies come from?"
"Ummm.........."

For generations, this remains a question which stumps parents, children and elders alike. In this regard, Kim Gosselin's 'Babies Of Two' can be considered as a significant work which not only succeeds in bravely taking up the taboo subjects of pregnancy and birth, but also in delivering them with a mellow undertone to maintain the veil of innocence in guileless minds.

Seen through the eyes of yet-to-be-born twins, the book captures the essence of unsullied naturalness -tabula rasa, a state of mind in which we are born. Also, when most books regarding this topic focus on the condition of the mother, this book deviates from the course and shows us two wiggling infants in a mother's womb, who are aware of each other even before their birth. Here, the everlasting and unique bond of twins is showcased with such love and adoration that it leaves a strong essence in the readers' heart. The mysterious link between two distinctly different individuals whose journey together starts from their mother's womb, sharing her warmth, reveling in her gentle caress and sweet words of encouragement and love. Cajoling, assuring, adjusting, and, sometimes complaining to each other of the shortage of space, their apparent banters are all beautifully picturised with simple words in a pure lucid language.

Lastly it ends on a beautiful and marveling note where, finally embraced within the lovely scent of their mother's skin and the protective shield of their father's arms they hear voices for the first time-with mama exclaiming her overflowing love and daddy adding "Me two".

Coming to one of the most important aspects of the tale, the marvelous paintings of the picture book. Adhering to the story, the pictures can be visualized as works of art pertaining to the young minds. With delicate strokes but a comprehensive structure, Alisa Belzil has used her apparent talent of water colors to brush the surfaces of juvenile and curious minds.

Written in a rhyming couplet manner, this book thrives in striking a dissonant harmony to glimpse in lives of twins, with a hopeful yearning at it's crescendo.

Starting from tiny tots to book lovers to expecting mothers, grandmothers and anybody interested to shed the ponderous responsibilities of adulthood- this book is a must pick.

Kim puts a unique twist on a sometimes difficult subject.
The story flows with wonderful fluidity in a poetic form that is clear and holds a child's attention beautifully. The book speaks with the voices of the unborn twins, a unique depiction of childbirth tastefully portrayed.
I gave the book to my daughter in law to test out on my granddaughter Ivy, it is with Ivy's seal of approval that I say... A fab book that would be enjoyed by all who read it including a potential sibling of twins and any other child who loves reading and or looking at beautiful pictures, it covers both the entertainment value and the educational.
Well worth buying!

A Beautiful Introduction To The Twin Bond
“Babies of Two”, written by Kim Gosselin and illustrated by Alisa Belzil, is a delightful peek into the wonders of life as seen by a set of twins, Molly and Maddie, just as they are about to make the transition from their mom’s womb to the outside world. I love that the wondrous bond they share is celebrated and presented in a fashion that would help a young child understand what is going on. The beautiful illustrations and poetic license that glosses over the challenges of sharing such a small space and delivering two new beings into the world makes this a great book for sharing with children and a lovely celebration of the miracle of twins.

Kim has done it again!
A wonderful story as told through the eyes of children. In this book "the eyes" are twin girls about to be born. Her kind, funny, and gentle words are spot on as she describes how babies come into the world. Kim as a very unique and special way to reach readers of all ages. This book is perfect for any mother, father, grandparent, sister, or brother!

There is no doubt that finding out that there is going to be a new arrival in a family is a joyful cause for celebration. Having met parents of twins it is clear that mixed with the joy there is also perhaps a hint of trepidation. Two babies, two of everything... However, once you have read this beautifully illustrated book of 32 pages you will realise that in fact it is absolutely twice the joy. Through the wonderful words of author Kim Gosselin, herself a grandmother of twins, and the exceptional illustrations of Alisa Belzil; you follow the progress of these two individual babies who form an unbreakable bond in the womb. That bond continues as they enter the world and it is hoped that their adventures will be continued as they grow into the adorable twos. This book would be perfect for any family with twins on the way or already making their presence felt. Great for parents, grandparents and brothers and sisters who are eagerly awaiting the day their new siblings arrive. Lovely book.

Babies of Two is a children’s book written by Kim Gosselin with illustrations by Alisa Belzil. It is a very cute book that shows twins Mollie and Maddie making their grand appearance to the world. The story is wonderfully written and the illustrations are a beautiful watercolor style of art. I think the dialog between the twins is really clever and I love the touches with Mama and Daddy.

After reading the story with my daughter Abby, I was asked about babies and twins specifically. I did my best to answer Abby’s questions about why there wasn’t two babies when she was born and a few other silly questions about twins (think The Corsican Brothers). She loved the illustrations just as I did. Abby cannot read yet but we have been practicing, but I’ll tell you what… When a child that cannot read but can still tell you the majority of the story through the illustrations provided you know you found a good artist. I have illustrated a number of children’s books and interpreting the story into artwork can be a challenge sometimes. I applaud Alisa’s work. I will definitely be looking out for more of her art.

As for Kim’s story, it is just fantastic and I highly recommend picking up a copy.

Babies of Two
I am the mother of twin boys, so it was fun to take a peek inside the womb once again to imagine the crowded world of twins! This book is unique because it's told from the perspective of the babies who are about to be born and finally arrive in their parents' arms at the end of the story. Reading Babies of Two would be a wonderful way to share the upcoming birth of twin siblings with an older brother or sister. It shows what the experience must be like for the babies, as well as for the mother who must go to the hospital when it's time for their delivery. With its charming illustrations by Alisa Belzil and joyful text, Babies of Two will delight both children and their parents.
