Developing creativity will allow children to express themselves, form critical thinking, and solve problems. Be Careful What You Wish For by Erika M Szabo is the perfect choice to teach these ideas to young readers. The protagonist is a little girl named Emma, and for her correct behavior, she is visited by the art fairy. So Emma receives a magic pencil that allows her to turn her drawings into real objects. Her parents set several rules for her so that her wishes do not cause problems. But on one occasion, when Emma goes to her room, she sees a mouse trying to eat her pencil. The girl explains that the pencil is magic and tries to reach an agreement with the mouse. However, things are not as easy as she expected, and that's when she has to use her creativity to solve her conflict.

I liked Be Careful What You Wish For because it has a lot of positive lessons for children. The topic of art is inspiring for children to be encouraged to draw. The illustrations are colorful and show funny situations. Emma's character teaches about listening and dialogue to try to resolve a situation. But she also shows the consequences of lying or not following the rules. In this way, young readers will learn to seek solutions and understand that a good option can also be to ask for help from parents when necessary. In addition, Erika M Szabo uses sentences that are easy to read for young children to practice reading by themselves. For all these reasons, Be Careful What You Wish For is the appropriate story to reinforce family values.
