Being Good is Boring by Rachel McGrath revolves around Grimwald, who is doing good fairy godfather training at the Good Fairy School. He does not think it is fun being good; instead he wants to lock up princes and princesses in the dungeon and see dragons flying around and breathing fire. When Mr Fairyspell asks everyone in class to take out their magic wand, Grimwald plans to do a different spell. His plan does not go off well and he gets a new plan to try out the next day. That plan also ends up being a disaster. On his way back from school, he meets Princess Sophie who is lost in the woods. Will Grimwald be able to take her back to the palace? Will Grimwald realize that doing good deeds is not boring?

The story is delightful and magical and readers will love the characters. The illustrations are bright and colorful and they give a good pace and movement to the story, and breathe life into the characters and scenes. It’s a wonderful book for bedtime storytelling and can also be used in school libraries and classrooms for read aloud sessions. The lesson that being good is not boring has been conveyed effectively with the help of Grimwald and Princess Sophie. Children understand ideas and concepts more easily when narrated with the help of a story and pictures. Through this story, Grimwald effectively tells readers that doing a good deed is not boring at all.
