I am finding it very hard to fit Black Magic Man by Ju Ephraime into one genre. This novel can easily fit into genres such as romance, paranormal, mystery and suspense. This amalgamation of many genres had me hooked from the very beginning and I didn’t want it to end. The mystery behind Black Magic Man, how they are living among normal people, and the story between the two main leads was simply amazing. I wanted the story to go on, so I hope the author writes a sequel or a continuation of the story somehow.

Black Magic Man by Ju Ephraime is set in the Caribbean island of St. Lucia where the paranormal and normal live together in a fragile harmony. Solange and Robert were happy. They had found love and their soul mate in each other. Their life together could not have been any more perfect, even if Solange’s parents think that she made a mistake. Her life takes a terrible turn when she meets Jean-Louis, a Black Magic Man. She has attracted the attention of this magical being and now he wants to claim her. She makes him feel the power he hasn’t felt in a very long time and he will not let her go, regardless of what he has to do.

I could not decide if I wanted to hate Jean-Louis or if I loved him. He is such a complex yet relatable character and at times I wanted him to get Solange and feel the love and affection he deserved. I don’t even know if I should call him an anti hero or not because I connected so well with him. Solange and Robert had great chemistry, they created magic, but there was a definite tension between Solange and Jean-Louis that was palpable whenever they came together on the pages. This is a magical novel, one that I would love to read again and again. Very entertaining!

It has been ten years since the master Black Magic Man, Jean-Louis, embraced a life of solitude, living on the fringes of society, the man who once ruled the earth, using his powerful black magic to entice women and exert his sexual prowess. But when he sees a woman who makes him feel as though he’s seen her before, he remembers the love of his life. Although he’s never seen her before, he has the feeling that he’s been part of her, a dizzying attraction that pushes him to follow her to her home - he knows he will stop at nothing to have her. His life as a master sorcerer once revolved around the phases of the moon and darkness of the night and now he must use his black magic powers to win this woman. Solange (Lange) Esnard is happily married and believes that nothing can come between her and her love for her husband. But when she suddenly becomes aware of the attention of Jean-Louis, she starts by ignoring it, but it quickly becomes disturbing and absorbing, invading her home. Does she have the strength to fight off one as powerful as the Black Magic Man, one she’s only heard about in rumors?

Black Magic Man by Ju Ephraime is an engrossing tale of love and magic, well written and with very strong paranormal elements. Ju Ephraime demonstrates great imagination in conceiving this story and the execution of the narrative is skillful and deft. The characters are exceptional and three-dimensional. Readers will understand the transformation that took place in the soul of Jean-Louis the moment he became apprentice to a great sorcerer, leaving his family and everything behind. The author weaves concepts of astrology into the story and creates an atmosphere that reeks with spiritual energy. The writing is beautiful, and I enjoyed the short sentences, the timely paragraph breaks, and the suspense in the narrative. The story is both psychologically and emotionally strong, crafted in a way that excites the interest of the reader and makes them care about the characters. You’ll find yourself telling Lange: “Please, don’t do it. Please don’t do it. You’re stronger than this.” The thing is, you will care so much that you will want to see her beat a seasoned magician.

Black Magic Man by Ju Ephraime is set in the exotic village of La Souf on St Lucia, part of the West Indies. We meet Solange (Lange to her friends) and her husband, Rupert. Newly married and deeply in love, everything seems perfect for this couple until the arrival of the Black Magic Man. The Black Magic Man, Jean Louis, believes Lange is the spirit of his former, long-lost love and he determines to have her for himself. Once he has set his sights on taking and having Solange, the stage is set for a battle that pits the newly-weds against the evil of the Black Magic Man. Despite the title, the story is not so much focused on the black magic itself, but much more on the loving relationship between the two main characters in the story. What a wonderfully sexy relationship they enjoy. This book is definitely not for the underage reader. The love scenes are hot, steamy and very graphic.

As I said, Black Magic Man by Ju Ephraime is less about the voodoo and black magic of the Caribbean and much more about the exciting relationship between the two main characters. One thing I particularly enjoyed was that the author has that rare gift of writing sex scenes in a way that doesn't seem vulgar or demeaning, but is still highly erotic. I very much enjoyed this aspect of the book and it is worth the read for that alone. The subject matter, voodoo and black magic, was definitely something new for me and it exposed me to a world I had not previously come across before, which was fascinating and informative (surely one of the main purposes of reading). I enjoyed the story and learnt a lot about a previously unknown (apart from the odd movie) and ancient art that is still very much alive and thriving in the Caribbean. If you are a fan of the paranormal, I'm sure you'll enjoy this adventure and the new worlds it opens up for you. I can definitely recommend it and say it is well worth the five stars I've given it.

Jean Louis' life had been governed by outside forces; first his Master, then the moon, and now the woman who had caught his eye. He was a Black Magic Man, or had been until his powers had been stripped ten years ago. Something about this woman, Solange, called to him, so much so that he swore he could feel the stir of the shadows, the return of his nature. The most powerful phase of the moon was coming and with it a time when his powers, should they exist, would be at their height, and he would claim her as his own. He swore she was for him, and not even her husband, whom Solange seemed to love passionately, could stop him claiming what he believed was his.

Solange is the main focus of this erotic paranormal story. We meet her and her husband and learn about their love and passion, and especially their intimate life. All the while, Jean Louis watches, waiting for an opening to exploit so as to make her his. Jean Louis stalks, follows, and hunts the woman he lusts for, and as time passes he grows increasingly more frustrated.

Black Magic Man is written in a simple third person perspective that will appeal to readers not looking for an overly heavy read, while still wanting to enjoy details of intimacy and the growing relationships through past recollections and steamy bedroom antics. I enjoyed the subtle cultural aspects of this book, as well as the suspenseful aspects of the plot that keep you wondering how things will turn out.

What a creative book!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and I highly recommend it. I was surprised to read that the paranormal entities don't have an easy love life. The paranormal aspect of this book is fully explored with lots of creative and realistic insinuations. There's just the right amount - not too much, not too little. There's also lots of romance and sex throughout the book. It's the romantic, fun, want-to-read-more kind of romance and sex. It gets a little creepy at times,
and that's a different type of tension. After all, even erotica novels could use some non-sexual conflict.
There are ebbs and flows in the sexiness, but suffice it to say, it's all sexy. There are also ebbs and flows in the tension. But suffice it say there's always something flowing in great amounts. And it's always delicious. I like it that way.
It seems that most Erotica fans like to enjoy stories with a few good sex scenes thrown in. I'm the opposite. I prefer good sex scenes connected by a loose story. This book is a surprisingly good balance of both preferences. It has a great story line and great make-me-blush sex scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it.

Black Magic Man is a riveting paranormal romance that is as chilling as it is sexy. Set on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Lucia, the story is steeped in voodoo and frightening magic. Jean-Louis is a Black Magic Man who sheds his skin to sexually assault women in their sleep. A fallout with his Master weakened his powers, but he becomes obsessed with the beautiful Lange and will stop at nothing to have her.
I loved Lange and Rupert, the heroine and hero of this story. The way they get together is so cute, and I loved their playful banter. Lange is hilarious. I adored Rupert. He just has something about him that goes beyond being smart and handsome. He’s just ultra sexy. The love scenes simmer and roil—this was an intensely erotic read. The details are sensual and perfect.
So, while the lovebirds are enjoying their life together, Jean-Louis fixates on Lange and begins stalking her—during the day and while she sleeps! Terrifying!
This is a truly spooky love story, but Ephraime manages to give us a truly satisfying ending complete the perfect with HEA!
