In Blackheart by Shannon C. Hill, Alaric the Blackheart is Rothlan’s new Man at Arms. Upon seeing his employer’s precious daughter, Arianna, he soon realizes that he may be unable to resist her. And the feeling is definitely mutual. However, Alaric has a secret that he is determined to keep. His secret has caused him much heartache in the past, and he can’t risk letting it happen all over again. So, he tries to keep Arianna at arm’s length. But Arianna is intrigued and can’t stay away from him. Her innocence, as well as her strength, and his protective, sometimes aggressive nature make them compatible, but they each have their insecurities that threaten their happiness. Their passionate desire for one another will draw them together, but circumstances and enemies may tear them apart.

What an amazing book. Now THAT was a love story. It’s hard to put into words how much I loved this book. I have read many romance novels, most of them very good, but this one had a real story to it. The relationship between Alaric and Arianna was completely realistic; it was gradual and grew over time. And the chemistry between the two of them was undeniable. In addition to the amazing romance aspect to this story, I absolutely loved the other relationships in the book. The connection between siblings as well as parents and their children is so evident and heartwarming. Their love and loyalty to one another just makes you want to be part of this wonderful family. With a love story that can only be described as epic, an exciting, unpredictable plot, and characters you will never forget, Blackheart is an absolute must-read. It has become one of my new favorite books, and I truly hope to see more from incredible storyteller Shannon C. Hill.
