Marci James is excited about a skiing vacation with friends in Colorado when she is contacted with the disturbing news that her grandfather has fallen on the ice and is hospitalized. Being the only family member available, Marci rushes to the side of the man she knows little about other than their family connection. Jerome James, although her grandfather, is a man of mystery. As a single day turns into a week, Marci is pretty stuck to sit by his side, fielding text messages from the group of friends awaiting her arrival. When a major snow storm develops and makes travel impossible, she begins to enjoy her time with Jerome while gathering previously unknown information about his early life, cementing an undeniable bond. To add to the anxieties of her grandfather’s health, the presence of handsome Dr. Chad Good begins to occupy romantic thoughts she had hoped to leave behind after a break up with long time ex, Lucas. As a relationship forms, complications arise when Dr. Good’s former gal pal, Joy, enters the picture.
Miscommunication creates a common conflict that leaves Marci confused and Chad determined to hold on to serious convictions of the heart. Blizzard Clearing by Carolyn Healy is set in a romantic Chicago winter storm that evokes cozy feelings for the reader. As Marci and Chad explore their newfound feelings for one another, she is also attempting to heal from a failed relationship and learn to trust again. Healy’s tale, although a tad predictable, is the perfect accessory for a cup of tea on even the warmest of days.
