Blood Bond by Alicia Ryan is a vampire novel with a bit of a difference. Roxanna Collins is a singer in Vegas. She doesn’t have many friends and she doesn’t want them. She isn’t happy about her life but feels that she has little choice in her career path – until she wakes up in the middle of the night to find herself in Victorian England! She has been brought there by Andrew for Darren, who thinks that he and Roxanne would be a good match. Prepared to make the most of what has happened, she gets a job in a gentleman’s club as a singer, the first club of its kind to have a singer, and sets about shaking things up. The pianist Phillip is a sensible sort of chap, but Roxanne works on hanging that while the allure of Darren could be too much for her to fight. Which should she choose – the dark or the light?

Blood Bond by Alicia Ryan was a little slow to begin with but once it picked up, it really took off. It wasn’t a dark novel like many vampire stories are; it had its moments of light and amusement. It’s a different look at vampires, a bit more light hearted with a touch of erotica thrown in for good measure. I liked the way the modern melded with the vintage and, overall, I have to say I enjoyed the story. The characters were exceptionally well developed, each one standing out as a person on their own as well as blending into the story – that adds more depth to a story I think, when you can identify with the characters on an individual basis. Enjoyable book, and I look forward to reading more from Ms. Ryan.

In Blood Bond by Alicia Ryan, Roxanna Collins is a Vegas singer, but her life has none of the glitz and glamour she expected, in fact she's barely making ends meet. Her life is going nowhere - until she's dragged back in time by a vampire to Regency England. While Darren, the vampire, attempts to convince her that they are the perfect match, Roxanna is already making a name for herself at a certain gentleman's club. Shocking them, entertaining them, and turning everything on its ear. She also may or may not be falling for the charm of her scandalized (and handsome!) piano player, Phillip. Darren lures her like a flame in the darkness, while Philip hides his light. But both of them speak to some deep part of her - who will she choose and how will it all turn out in he end?

Blood Bond by Alicia Ryan is a quick read. It starts off a little slow and if you hadn't read the blurb you would be expecting a different story. But once Roxanna gets pulled back two hundred years into the past, things start to pick up. Her time travel is a big thing in the book, but instead of having Roxanna try to blend in, Ryan disregards the usual time-travel tropes and plays with the humor of it. It's refreshing, though a part of me wondered at how every character seemed to take Roxanna's 'oddities' in their stride. Other than that minor quibble, Blood Bond by Alicia Ryan makes for a decent read and leans more towards the softer, humorous side than the vampire novels I'm used to. In the end, Phillip wound up being my favorite character and I found myself wondering about him long after the book was over.

Blood Bond by Alicia Ryan is the story of Roxanna Collins, who is a Vegas lounge singer. Her life is going nowhere and her hopes and dreams are at a standstill. Every day is monotonous, except the day she falls asleep and wakes up in a strange place and a very strange land. She finds herself in the Regency era in England, where things are very different from modern day America. She is taken there by Darren, a vampire with an eclectic taste in things. Darren believes that he and Roxanna have a matchmaker in heaven and he is not shy about proving it. But Roxanna has other plans, plans that include a gentleman's club and a certain piano player whose kindness and vulnerability tug at her heart. Darren's darkly handsome allure is not easy to ignore as well, so what is she going to do? How can she choose between two great things?

The first thought I had about Blood Bond was that it would not be pretty special. Alicia Ryan proved me wrong. At first the novel seemed a little dragging and slow, but Ryan's crisp and clear writing style made up for that and kept me interested in the novel. By the time you reach the tenth chapter, things get really interesting and enjoyable, especially the scenes from the gentlemen's club. I feel that the cover of the novel could be changed, but other than that it was a great novel to read and pass a couple of hours with a smile on your face.
