Blood Island: Secret of the Halflings Book 2 by Samantha Coville is a young adult fantasy about the Siren community. When three elders of the Siren community go out for their monthly hunt, no one expects them to turn up dead. This puts the community on edge as they wait for an upcoming strike. It doesn't help matters that Elizabeth is loose and Byron is roaming the headquarter's halls. On top of that, Raya is sent with her friends to a strange island where Sirens can move without worry in the sunlight. No one knows what to make of this anomaly, except that is must be an important part of a secret, evil plan.

This was a very interesting story that crossed a lot of genres and will appeal to fans of fantasy, science fiction, and adventure. The story is very creative and written and executed well. The pace of the book keeps the plot moving forward nicely and keeps the reader wanting to turn the pages to learn more. The characters were the best part. Readers will relate to the lovable Raya and the tough decisions she had to make. There is also a nice romance to tie things together, just when readers might think the theme is becoming too dark or intense. This book is relatable to many fans of different genres and isn't only for readers of fantasy or young adult. Nice job.
