Body and Blood is a work of paranormal thriller and action fiction penned by author Michael Gallagher. The work is best suited for the mature adult reading audience owing to scenes of graphic violence and gore as well as the use of explicit language throughout. In this fascinating take on spiritual power, demons, and psychic events, we find ourselves following a pair of warrior-priests, Father James Keenan and Father Akono Nwosu, who are already up to their necks in gang warfare and the actual contents of Hell walking the streets around their parishes. So when children start going missing in the run-up to a celebration for an ancient life-hating demon, it quickly becomes a race against time to find the cause and stop even more Hell from breaking loose.

As a fan of horror-fantasy shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer back in the day, Michael Gallagher’s superb spiritual setup in Body and Blood spoke to my inner horror fanatic instantly. The original concept is set up well and is plenty exciting as an opener to the story, and then when the main plot-line develops, things just get better and better as the body count rises. Nwosu was my favorite of the dynamic duo of warrior-priests, but every character we encounter in the tale is well-formed, fully realized, and described in a highly visual, cinematic style. This enhances the reading experience and, alongside the sharp twists of the plot and the atmospheric settings, comes together to form a truly perfect read. Overall, paranormal and horror-thriller readers would be remiss to miss out on Body and Blood: a highly recommended supernatural read.
