Bountiful Butterflies by Cheryl Woodward is a concept picture book that uses butterflies to help children learn their colors and numbers. With the turn of each page, we are introduced to a new butterfly and, along with it, a new color and a new number. In addition to the playful, beautiful, colorful illustrations, this book is written in fun rhymes, which keeps kids engaged and interested. Finally, the book ends with all the colors and numbers taught throughout the story and a few blank pages for children to practice what they have learned.

I was instantly drawn to this book, not only because I come from a family of butterfly lovers, but also because of its colorful, well-illustrated cover. I really enjoyed it from beginning to end and just had to read it to my 2-year-old. She is learning her colors and numbers, so this was the perfect addition to her library. Children, like my daughter, will learn or gain practice with these concepts while reading Bountiful Butterflies. Also, if you’re like me and you love rhymes, this book is full of clever, well-integrated ones. It was such fun to read and even more fun to read to a child. I wish there were more books like this when I was a kid, but I’m very thankful that my daughter has this one. It makes learning enjoyable, and it makes reading not only educational but engaging as well. Cheryl Woodward has gained a fan. I will definitely be keeping my eye on her books for our growing library.
