Chloe is spoiled rotten, full of attitude and unashamed of any of this. She is also pregnant after a one night stand during summer vacation and her life just got a lot more serious. What was supposed to be just one night of fiery sexual chemistry changes Chloe’s life and she’s not quite sure what to do about it, until her one night lover, Chase, becomes her new neighbor. Chloe and Chase couldn’t be more different, but they both want the same thing yet are too afraid to admit it. Alicia Michaels has written the story Brat with a depth not usually found in characters so young. Despite being a spoiled princess, Chloe is quite mature and struggles with some very mature decisions. The way she handles impending motherhood is admirable, particularly so considering her own parents’ behavior.

Brat is a great story that is well-written, but where it really shines is in the characters that make up the story. Alicia Michaels covers a fairly controversial topic without preaching or politicizing, but rather mentioning it as a viable decision that every woman makes for herself. Chloe’s character was just the type to avoid responsibility, but her reluctance to do so made me respect her more and root for her success. Despite his earthy exterior, Chase was cute and charming and someone Chloe was hard pressed to resist. But Brat wasn’t just pages filled with serious topics; it was fun and funny, making it a well-rounded story that had me laughing and crying within just a few pages. They say nothing can change a person like pregnancy and Chloe turns what could have been a giant mistake into a life worth living.
