Breaking the Chokehold: 7 Simple Steps to Bust into the Life and Business You Love by Doug Howorko is far from an inspirational book. While it motivates, it is written for readers who want to go beyond day-dreaming to producing results in business and in life. Let’s start by defining the audience most suitable for this book. It is written for anyone who wants to succeed in life and business, and it is not a feel-good kind of book because it is packed with strategies and suggestions that demand shifts in paradigm, worldview, mentality, and a complete overhaul of belief systems. This book provides the tools for both self-transformation and a winning business mindset.

The author’s story is the same as the story of most working people who know deep inside that they are meant for better things than the work they currently do, which only enables them to live and pay bills. They are stuck, faced with limiting beliefs that hinder them from taking bold steps toward what they secretly desire. In this book, readers will identify those limiting beliefs and find tools to overcome them, learn to connect with their creative centers, understand and embrace the digital world with its limitless possibilities, and master the mindset of a millionaire, and a lot more.

Breaking the Chokehold provides bold, actionable steps to create and take any enterprise to success. While this is a business book, it contains wisdom and insights that readers can use in personal life. Doug Howorko writes with simplicity and uses his storytelling skills to make the writing even more enjoyable, enriching it with personal experiences. It is packed with knowledge and wisdom, one of those books that will change the way most people think about business and themselves. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to become a successful entrepreneur.

Breaking the Chokehold: 7 Simple Steps to Bust Into the Life and Business You Love is a blueprint for leaving the workaday world behind and going out on your own. Author Doug Howorko based his book on his own experience. He worked a corporate job and was well paid, but dissatisfied. He described himself as “depressed, angry, and frustrated because I knew I could experience more” and says that many of his readers are in the same situation and, like him, want to transform their lives. Howorko first lists the three “chokeholds” that may be keeping people from making a change. Then he discusses the seven steps for breaking out of those chokeholds and starting your own business. Chapters end with a “call to action,” which are specific steps readers can take, such as writing down four reasons you want to change your life. These calls to action also direct users to other useful resources.

Breaking the Chokehold is not a step-by-step manual to start any particular business. Author Doug Howorko doesn’t write, “To go into the house-flipping business (or any other type of self-employment) you must . . .” Rather, the book is a series of inspirational, yet practical axioms to encourage readers to decide what their financial dreams are and implement them. Howorko interlaces his book with adages from successful people as diverse as football coach Vince Lombardi and minister Norman Vincent Peale. Howorko’s obvious enthusiasm and the maxims from others inspired me. One particular sentence that stood out to me was “The amount of money you make is the direct result of the amount of value you provide to others.” Those are wise words. Anyone who’s unhappy with their financial position and/or would like to start their own business would do well to read Howorko’s book. But to get the most out of this book, don’t merely read it. Experience it. Follow Howorko’s suggestions for reaching your dreams.

Breaking the Chokehold: 7 Simple Steps to Bust Into the Life and Business You Love by Doug Howorko is a motivating and inspiring self-help book to jumpstart a successful business. But there is more to it than just having a dream, according to the author. You have to have a plan, and since these 7 steps helped the author achieve his dream goals and success beyond what he could have hoped for, he wants to encourage readers to follow his advice. I really love Howorko's enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and life, but it wasn't always that way for him. There was a time when everything was stalling, his dream was fizzling, and he wasn't sure what to do. Then he began to consult with some of the brightest minds and the most successful people, learned from them, applied what he'd learned, and entered the world of true success.

Howorko has created a practical guide that can fit almost anyone's lifestyle and schedule. He's inviting readers to throw out fear and doubt in favor of self-belief and a plan in order to build an extra income. One of the most important things the author stresses is to find something you're passionate about and will want to stick with. He admonishes that it takes courage to think differently, dream big, and make concrete changes. The seven steps aren't hard to follow, but it's like a recipe: If you don't know the recipe, you can't bake the cake properly. His recipe is fairly simple, mostly having to do with changing the way you think about things, but you have to be willing to embrace the digital economy as well, maximize your own potential, be willing to learn new things, and make it work for you. Breaking the Chokehold by Doug Howorko is an easy-to-follow guide about creating a successful side hustle.

Breaking the Chokehold: 7 Simple Steps to Bust into the Life and Business You Love by Doug Howorko is a systematic guide that encourages letting go of limitations and working towards entrepreneurship goals. To break free from societal norms and become an entrepreneur working on an idea one is passionate about, the book prescribes seven steps. The first step is about finding one purpose, establishing the reason for wanting to make the change, and leaving one’s comfort zone. The second step contains advice about how to harness your individual characteristics and capacity and become an entrepreneur. The third step explores the digital world and the opportunities it offers. The next three steps discuss planning, creating the right mindset, and execution, respectively. The last section explains how to take care of oneself while pursuing your goals.

From the onset, Breaking the Chokehold identifies and addresses the limitations that hold many people back from pursuing their business dreams. In the introduction, the purpose of the guide is laid out which gave me a clear picture of what I would gain from reading the book. The steps it contains are well organized and explained. Each step is broken down into specific sub-topics that are related to the topic. I loved that the book takes into consideration the challenges that first-time entrepreneurs face. It explains that the process involved is difficult but fulfilling. Doug Howorko's experiences enrich the book as he shares the challenges he faced when transitioning from employment to entrepreneurship. Written by an experienced business leader and strategist, Breaking the Chokehold is an important tool for success for anyone who wants to become an entrepreneur.
