Bumpy Roads by Brian Wilson is a compilation of thirty-five memorable short stories. What is unique about these short stories is that they are set in many different countries, such as New Zealand, Japan, Australia, and Zimbabwe, among others. Readers will get a glimpse of what it is like in these diverse countries, while also being entertained by living vicariously through these interesting characters. A well-chosen title, this book takes readers through the bumpy roads of life using these stand-alone, intriguing and often humorous stories. From car rental and traveling adventures to the fun but messy experiences that frequently occur with children, these short stories are completely relatable.

When reading the short stories in Bumpy Roads, I had one of two reactions after almost every one: laughing out loud or saying to myself, “Oh, wow.” I equally enjoyed both the thought-provoking stories as well as the amusing ones. Some made me really think about life in general and others just made me laugh because the ending was so entertaining and unpredictable. It is a great read if you have some time to kill or are just relaxing after a day at work because they are unrelated stories that can each be enjoyed on their own. Even though there were a few stories that weren’t as funny or thought-provoking as I would have liked, the overall book is very well-written and definitely worth reading. I have my favorites, and I will certainly be rereading them. I look forward to reading more from this author.
