Author Biography

Michael Ray Davis is an actor, a voice actor, an audiobook narrator and now an author. He has written about the acting industry in "Camera, Speed...ACTION!" and voiced several audiobooks available on Audible and Amazon. Davis finally found his niche and now has no plans of ever retiring. His vocation is his avocation. Davis has been a truck driver, a shoe salesman, retail manager, Dairy Queen manager, Cab driver, courier, Karaoke host, Radio DJ, and various other jobs that helped him get by when struggling as an actor and writer.

Davis made every mistake possible when he started out but also garnered valuable input from each set and situation - thus, the basis for writing the book.

As an actor, Davis has worked and continues to work in acclaimed projects such as the award winning film 'Come Morning' playing now on Amazon Prime, memorably portrayed Admiral George Dewey for The History Channel and the infamous criminal Randolph Franklin Dial on America's Most Wanted, worked with such actors as Chuck Norris, Craig T. Nelson, Richard Crenna, Judd Nelson and was recently featured as the Judge in the award winning Tyler Perry film 'A Fall From Grace' - working alongside Tyler Perry, Crystal Fox, Phylicia Rashad and the late, great Cicely Tyson – released exclusively through Netflix.

Michael Ray Davis currently lives in Orlando, Florida with his Redhead (wife of 35 years) and 5 adorable cats. For speaking engagements, book signings and film/television bookings, contact The Newton Agency at 1-813-367-2077.

Camera, Speed...Action! by Michael Ray Davis is intended to be read as an insider's secrets to the real world of acting. Davis harnesses a lifetime of personal and professional experiences and compiles what he can into this story. It covers what it takes to be an actor, the recommended wardrobe staples to have on hand, auditioning, what to expect on different sets, and finding yourself an agent. Davis rounds all of this out with industry phrases and their meanings and an epilogue.

I obtained my SAG card after my very first job as an extra when Steven Spielberg pulled me off a street and gave me a couple of throwaway lines in Ready Player One. It was terrifying and exciting, and I had no idea what I was doing. This is where Camera, Speed...Action! by Michael Ray Davis would have come in handy. The narrative is light and conversational, even if some of the references may be outdated for younger readers; people who think of Paul Newman as the ranch-dressing guy, or don't know there was a time when women didn't get full bikini waxes. This book is intended for a universal audience but I do think it will be more suited to those getting into the business later in life. Overall, Davis offers a wealth of knowledge in a comfortable fashion.

You cannot get a 'no holds barred', straight talk more than from Michael Ray Davis. His experience comes through in this book in guiding an actor into igniting their passion for the profession, or perhaps showing some that this career is not meant for the faint of heart.

Michael loves what he does, and it is clear in his prose and witticisms.

This is a must have book for anyone wishing to pursue this crazy business, or just wants an entertaining view into the industry. Makes a great gift for a friend or colleague - don't let this gem pass you by!

Through his broad range of experience, Michael has developed a good sense of "street smarts" on acting and what casting directors want. When he gives advice, I listen.
