Captain Jenna & the Sky Pirates by Dave Bennett is a children’s adventure story filled with plenty of action and a heroine that children will love to admire. Jenna was having a normal day, but it wasn’t going to stay like that for long. A heavy storm was bound to keep her indoors, but when Jenna saw something sparkly and shiny in her garden, she knew she must investigate it. She has no idea what happened next, but all she knows is that she is nowhere near her home. She is stuck in a place where pirate ships sail in the sky, there are battles that she is now a part of, and there seems to be something that pulls her to this new world. She joins the crew of Captain Rhys Jones and makes some new friends that find a special place in her heart. However, she needs to find a way back to her own home and she needs to do it soon. But does she really want to go back?
Captain Jenna & the Sky Pirates by Dave Bennett is an incredibly detailed and rich story. Jenna is a very likable character and she is very relatable as well. Young children will be able to find a hero in her; they will be able to find a companion in her and use their imaginations as they join her on her journey home. The flow is great, the pace is fast and the characters are very enjoyable. I think this is a good novel for tween and younger audiences who have active imaginations and like to go on adventures. What makes this story even more wonderful is that their parents are going to enjoy it just as much as their children. Very entertaining and imaginative.
