Career After COVID-19 by Fleur Hull and Kym Kraljevic is a self-help book meant to help readers with “How to leverage the opportunities from the pandemic to unlock a rewarding career transformation in 2021 and beyond”. Fleur and Kym both experienced immediate job losses in a matter of days as the far-reaching implications of the global CV19 pandemic were beginning to be realized. Leaning on their friendship for support, the pair started a podcast that has now become a book, wherein the future of the workplace in virtually all sectors will continue to rapidly evolve, leaving behind those without the advantage of foresight of those who do. Fleur and Kym offer practical ideas and potential solutions that address the most common scenarios while making clear that the mental health and well-being of readers are of paramount importance.
There have been several post-Covid guides, but Fleur Hull and Kym Kraljevic have put together the most accessible, practical book I've read in Career After COVID-19. What we've been through as a species in the span of just a few months feels like it's been raging for years, and the uncertainty of what will be out there when we are finally able to emerge can be really, really scary. As a parent who has been shepherding her children into different corners of the house for distance learning for eight months, I'm right there. Is this my life now? What's next? Each chapter presents a different issue and follows up with the 'why' and the 'how', a correlating list of pitfalls to avoid, a summary, and the tools for action. Fleur and Kym also align themselves with these scenarios through personal stories, the most encouraging to me being a return to studying during the pandemic, something I've long desired but never had the time to do. The idea of 'up-skill' for success is brilliant, and there's no better time to employ it myself. I imagine there are many readers who will find so much to motivate them in this book and I'm grateful to have come across it.
