Cascading Lies by DR Willis is the third instalment of the Lonely Deception Trilogy. Nick Davis is a born survivor but he has shadows in his background. One of those shadows is a strange man called Roth Braun. In a bid to turn his luck around and get rid of the curse that seems to be dogging his footsteps, Nick has moved on to a new place and changed his name. Nothing seems to work though, and when he is drawn to a troubled soul by the name of Jane, his luck takes an even worse turn. Both Nick and Jane have secrets locked away inside of them, secrets that they cannot tell. Nick’s new beginnings are no better than what he left behind. He doesn’t know whom he can call a friend and he can’t identify his enemies. He needs to run to save his life but he isn’t going anywhere without Jane. Can Nick ever move on from his past? And what are Jane’s secrets? How do they affect Nick?

Cascading Lies by DR Willis really lives up to the genre of suspense that it is in. I admit to finding it a little choppy when I started reading, but that may be because I haven’t read the first two books and struggled to understand what it was all about. However, I soon settled into it and found that I couldn’t put it down. Mr. Willis has a way of writing that draws the reader in and leaves them wanting to read more. Each chapter ending meant I had to read just one more chapter and that, of course, lead to the whole book being read in one sitting! This is an extremely well written book, with an excellent plot that seems to twist and turn all over the place, serving to hold the reader’s attention until the end and this is something that few authors seem to achieve these days. Loved the development of the characters, the way more came out about them as the book drew on, instead of having all the information to hand at the start. That definitely makes a book infinitely more interesting to read. I will have to reread this book – after I have read the first two!

Cascading Lies is a suspense novel written by D.R. Willis. Roth Braun is a German national living incognito in the United States in 1945. He’s in Savannah, Georgia, when a rapidly approaching thunderstorm chases him into Pete’s Grocers. While no one is in the front of the store, he begins to hear the sound of voices arguing from the back room, and he can see a large man through the doorway. They are arguing about money, which the other man, obviously the shopkeeper, claims he doesn’t have. Braun suddenly hears gunfire, one shot followed instantly by another, and when he enters the back room, he sees the two men lying there, one dead and the other dying as he watches. Hearing a noise, he’s barely able to detect the figure of a woman as she dashes through the store and leaves. Figuring to take advantage of the situation, Braun locks the store’s door and flips over the closed sign, then he checks and empties the cash register, searches the pockets of the large man and finds a key.

D.R. Willis’ thriller novel, Cascading Lies, is taut and suspenseful. I enjoyed the time shift from the 1940s to the present day, and wondered just what had been set in motion when Braun finds the key on the extortioner’s body. While this is the third book in Willis’ Nick Davis trilogy, the author provides enough information to allow this novel to stand on its own. Nick Davis and Jane are marvelous main characters who are each tormented by dreams and tragic pasts which they cannot escape. The element of industrial espionage and the intricate web of lies that surround Nick presents an intriguing and thought-provoking puzzle for the reader to mull over as they follow the trail of deceit and death which seems to be aimed directly at him. Cascading Lies is action-packed and fast-paced, and it’s impossible to put down once you’ve started it. It’s highly recommended.

Cascading Lies is a suspense fiction novel by D.R. Willis. The story unfolds with a prologue; it is the tumultuous year of 1945 in May, and the mysterious Roth Braun and Teresa Cayden team up in a violent and most unusual circumstance in Georgia, USA. Then we fast forward to the present time when Nick Davis is jolted out of a drugged state in his apartment by the incessant ringing of his phone. Slowly coming to his senses, Nick realizes that his very own sister, Amy, and an unidentified thin man are responsible for his state of mind. His thoughts shift to his supposedly dead mother, revealing her involvement with the notorious Cascade Systems. He also finds out soon enough that Amy and her companion came to steal his dead father’s documents. What follows is a chain of cascading lies that will surely take your breath away.

D.R. Willis proves that he is a master suspense story teller with Cascading Lies. This is a novel that will keep its readers guessing from the start to the last paragraphs of the last page. Action and suspense begin in the first chapter and continue without let up until the climax of the story. And just as we think we have gotten to the bottom of it all, the author jolts us again with a twist that nobody could have expected. Cascading Lies consists of a number of characters who are not who they seem but surprisingly, these characters come out believable and what's more, we can also relate to them. And this is where the author really succeeds - in making his characters real with all their flaws and yes, their lies. D.R. Willis is a suspense author to watch out for!
