Life is all about choices. Tiger (the cat) makes his choice to follow his heart, to pursue a mission to bring peace to everyone. Tiger partners with Fiddle (another cat) and they venture through the forestlands toward the Temple of the Golden Light. They must share their wisdom and encourage humans to be the caretakers of Mother Earth, but it’s a difficult task trying to convince humanity to be forgiving, tolerant, inclusive, and peaceful custodians. Along their journey, Tiger and Fiddle connect with other animals and humans who respect their quest, joining in to help make this world a better place. Among the humans they touch are Solman and Melinda Sue (or Suzie). Solman is a well-respected writer, whose philosophy follows the peaceful words of Mahatma Gandhi: “the ways of love and truth will always win.” This brings Solman a sense of fulfillment as he reflects on the healing power of nature.

Tarra Light’s novel, Cat on a Mission, is a journey of discovery, a quest for the metaphorical Holy Grail of Mother Earth. Using cats (and other animals, including humans) as the anthropomorphic main characters, the author leads the reader on an epic adventure to bring kindness to the world, to open human eyes to the extreme diversities between good and bad which invade our conscious beings. The author teaches and entertains, unraveling a compelling tale that will make us all rethink our place and purpose in this world and what we need to do to make it a better place for everyone. Within the tale, the author allows the characters to connect with one another, both romantically and through friendship. In her epistolary telling, she weaves an odyssey that’s comparable to the classics like Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels and Sheila Burnford’s The Incredible Journey.

The story is told mostly in narrative, storytelling form, with some dialogue and poetry to alter and enhance the mood of different scenes. The author has a good command of the English language and she leads the reader through a thought-provoking spiritual journey of their own. The message is clear: we can learn from each other, we can learn from the animals and Mother Nature all around us, and we must care for everyone and everything. Well written and thorough in its spiritual presentation.
