Dr. Makenzie Holder has been working in the ER Trauma Unit for the last six months. Trying to keep a low profile, she opted to work the night shift. Her life consists of work, and trying to stay safe because of someone dangerous from her past. She is placed in the FBI Witness Protection Plan, forced to give up her true identity along with her family to stay safe. With all this turmoil in her life, the last thing she wants or needs is a romantic relationship. When she finds herself butting heads with Detective Ryler Buchanan, sparks fly. While Ryler is instantly attracted to Makenzie, she knows that there is no way she could ever become involved with a detective. That doesn't stop Ryler though, and he decides that he will try to figure out what she is hiding. When Makenzie meets Jonathan Bain, she decides to accept his offer of a date. Will Makenzie finally be able to set aside her past and find happiness with Jonathan, or will she decide that Ryler is the one for her?

Chasing Air really has it all. There is suspense, mystery, and drama, along with a heart melting romance that knocked my socks off. I found myself totally drawn into the story. Ms. Roberts certainly captures the essence of Makenzie, allowing the reader to feel her compassion for people, especially those who have dealt with domestic violence. Ms. Roberts handles the issue of domestic violence with empathy, but also portrays the victims as strong and provides the message that it is never the victims' fault, truly a fantastic message that women need to hear! Overall, a fast paced, page turning read. Chasing Air is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a multi-layered story filled with strong characters, a unique story line, and a fantabulous romance that just might have the reader believing in second chances.

Chasing Air by DeLaine Roberts is a serious story about a woman on the run. The heroine barely survives an abusive relationship that might have ended her life had it not been for the FBI uncovering the Mafia-style hit that was planned on her by her husband, an influential attorney who was a member of the infamous Donati family. She is moved to Dallas to begin a new life as an emergency room doctor, Dr. Makenzie Holder. She has to deal with the trauma of auto accidents, gunshot wounds, and beatings on a regular basis and must try to live a normal life. Part of life is dealing with the opposite sex, which she has no trouble with, unless she is faced with two potential sexual partners in the same week. The cosmically handsome real estate developer and the totally gorgeous police detective both vie for a place in her social calendar, but she has reservations about both of them. She is still dealing with her past and all of the baggage she is carrying from her estranged husband. Does she even want to get involved at this time? Mr. Cosmic may have issues with self-control. Mr. Detective is not a safe bet either; she is worried that his curiosity about her might lead to him to digging up details of her past.

DeLaine Roberts effectively describes the gravity of the choice that her main character must make about the men who have been introduced into her life. When Makenzie makes that choice, Ms. Roberts is not shy about chronicling the explorations the couple practise to discover each other’s sexual pleasures. At times, the sexual scenes overshadow the basic story, but usually in a way that will entertain. I would recommend this to readers who are more interested in the workings of a relationship than a plot.

Believing in the man she loved, Dr. Judith Bellonte Donati married one of the most dangerous men in the world, unaware of his mob ties and dark inner personality. To get out of her marriage alive, she had to pretend to be dead, using her own connections with the FBI in order to stage her death and get away. Leaving her whole life behind and hiding behind a new name and identity, she now struggles with her past and the trauma of leaving everything: family, friends, etc behind. Her new love interest, Jonathan, isn't really something she has time for, or even expected. But it's in Jonathan's arms that she now has a chance at the love she thought she had lost, and in finding herself once again.

Chasing Air is a deeply heart-felt novel. Judith was a conflicted and emotional character who really brought her host of problems to light. There may have been a little too much inner dialogue for me, especially when she was figuring out her new found feelings for Jonathan and deciding what to do to take control of her life, but I definitely understood where she was coming from. If I were in the same situation, I bet I would have some of the same hang-ups and confusion.

DeLaine Roberts really knows how to get inside a character's head and show some emotion. I think it is her particular writing style that made me enjoy the book as much as I did. There was a good solid plot, and really excellent characters, but the writing style outshone them all. Definitely something to read if you like steamy and emotional romances that have excellent writing!

Chasing Air by DeLaine Roberts is a love story filled with turbulence and romance. Dr Makenzie Holder is trying to start a new life by moving to another place - after pretending to be dead to her husband and family. She undergoes a name change, too, so that no one recognizes her. Though the ghosts from her past haunt her, she is still better off compared to her earlier life. She meets millionaire Jonathan Bain who is interested in her. However, his demanding behavior reminds her of her past. Ryler Buchanan is another divorced detective working with her who has also faced a lot of setbacks in his personal life.

The book is beautifully penned. The emotions are raw, passionate, and turbulent. All three characters - Jonathan, Ryler, Makenzie - are individuals in their own right with a strong persona. The story speaks of a woman's strength and courage to escape from her personal mess. It is a love story that will intrigue you and keep you on the edge. There is a wealth of emotions in the book and it is a book for women because it projects their inner strength and determination during times of crisis.

The love scenes in the story are aesthetically expressed. They are hot and passionate and the author does not go over the top with the details. Who will Makenzie fall in love with finally - Jonathan or Ryler? It is not just about falling in love and moving on, there are a gamut of other emotions that run through the story. An excellent love story of turbulence, intrigue, and suspense.

Checking the locks on her windows and doors, three times over, has become a regular habit for Doctor Makenzie Holder and so far it has been keeping her alive. With the help of the FBI, Dr Holder has been relocated to a new city and bears a new name in DeLaine Roberts’ thrilling romance Chasing Air. The brilliant Dr Judith Bellonte Donati staged her own death to prevent a hired mob hit-man from ending it for her. Though she misses her family connections and is constantly plagued by ghosts from the past, Makenzie is doing the best she can with making her new life normal again. Wealthy businessman Jonathan Bain offers her everything that she was used to in the past, but his demanding attitude is too close a reminder of her past. Meanwhile, another romance is kindling with Detective Ryler Buchanan with whom Makenzie not only feels safe, but comfortable. With her life and love in a constant state of discovery, she wonders if and when her past will catch up with her and whether she will truly be able to let go and live again.

Chasing Air is a steamy romance with plenty of suspense and intrigue to keep the reader on their toes. DeLaine Roberts has created a masterpiece of the romance genre. The reader feels each heartbeat and each catch of breath as Makenzie struggles through the challenges of rebuilding a new life while the former one still lurks in the shadows. For those who love romance with a twist, you simply can’t go wrong with Chasing Air. Suspenseful, sizzling, and real; DeLaine Roberts will keep you on your toes and looking over your shoulder while you fall in love.
