Matt Browning’s Chicks and the City is a children’s picture book about a chicken named Stu who feels there has to be more out there than the ins and outs of the daily humdrum life he experiences on the farm. Stu finds himself wanting more and dreams of one day leaving farm life behind for the excitement of the city and everything that he’ll do when he gets there. It isn’t long before Stu is accidentally dropped into the world he’s been dreaming of and wishing for. But is it everything he’d hoped for? Matt Browning creates a lively world with colorful characters and in just a few pages tells a story of adventure that each of us can easily relate to.

Illustrator Ashley Teets brings the animals to life, as well as the larger characters such as that of the farm and the city, with bright colors that grab the reader and pull them in. Her illustrations bring warmth and personality to each character in such a way that it’s as though they are about to dance right off the page. Browning and Teets expertly blend their master crafts to create something incredibly special with Chicks and the City. Both Browning and Teets appear to have found a way to create life in a different way on the page. Chicks and the City will bring smiles to the faces of young and old alike as well as laughter when Stu finds himself in precarious situations.
