Child of Tempus by Winnifred Tataw is the first book in the Gods' Scion series. Roderick is the Acolyte of Time and a prince of Diar with abilities that give him power over time. His father has always been after power and has been his enemy since Roderick was a child. The royal family creates their own share of drama as Roderick has a strained relationship with his mother and complicated relationships with his siblings. He attends a birthday party and meets Princess Arcelia with whom he creates a bond as they're forced to flee from the Demon King and face the reality of the destruction that brews on the horizon.

The story has an intriguing setup of a rich mythology that brings life into the world and creates the perfect drawcard for those who love rich fantasy settings. Winnifred Tataw creates a high fantasy background that has a modern tinge woven into the mythology. Dragon-human hybrids, magic, and gods are paired with modern conveniences such as a phone and Ready To Eat meals to create an original and relatable fantasy world. The book contains stories of the earth at the beginning that serve as reference guides to the lore and as stepping stones to lead you throughout the world. The reference guides introduce you to the gods, the acolytes, and the people of the earth, which allows you to see the different aspects of the world before ever meeting Prince Roderick. The story weaves between Roderick's perspective and various characters in his life including his family and Princess Arcelia. A fast-paced high fantasy, Child of Tempus blends rich mythology and a vivid setting as the background to a harrowing adventure and a coming-of-age story.
