In Cleared Hot, Lt. Col. Brian L. Slade describes his military and social activities during the war in Afghanistan, as well as the events that shaped him into the man he is today. While piloting an Apache attack helicopter in Afghanistan, he was coping with being in a difficult marriage with a wife who struggled with a mental disorder. The author also discusses his thrilling football experience, working hard under harsh conditions on a church mission service in Brazil, and learning critical leadership qualities in the Army ROTC at Utah State. In addition to sharing his story, the author demonstrates the scientifically backed measures he used to get over stressful circumstances and why it is vital to seek improvement during such times.

Lt. Col. Brian L. Slade delivers his wartime experiences with a rawness and intensity that perfectly suit the atmosphere of a battle zone. Reading the detailed descriptions of the conflict made my chair seem like it belonged to a pilot in a war zone, as I imagined the "high-frequency vibration in the pedals" that may signify imminent tail rotor failure. Aside from the fighting experiences that veterans and soldiers will relate to, the book contains numerous significant lessons about principles that are vital in all sectors of life, such as leadership, interpersonal skills, mental health, confronting bullies, and more. Cleared Hot by Lt. Col. Brian L. Slade is fundamentally a unique compilation of pearls of wisdom and life lessons gleaned from an excellent, inspirational man who confronted tremendously difficult situations as a soldier and in his marriage. What a rewarding reading experience!
