I just finished reading Collision, a short story by David Podlipny, and all I can say is ‘Whoa!’ This creepy little tale will definitely stay with me for a while, that’s for sure. The story follows an unnamed man as he deals with the aftermath of a car accident. Transitioning between helping an injured little girl, his hunting history, and a different accident, we learn a bit of the man’s past, and come to find that it’s darker than what might appear on the surface. Have all of the dead truly been animals? It appears that may not be the case.

I enjoy a story that sends a chill up and down your spine, and Collision certainly did that for me. A psychological read, it’s interesting to get truly into this man’s head. Author David Podlipny uses the very few pages of this story to his advantage, writing an eerie tale that will have you wanting more, but yet ending on the perfect note for this particular work. I loved that the main character is unnamed; for some reason this added to the creepiness of the story for me. This story would appeal to any reader who loves interesting, psychologically based short stories, or anyone looking for a quick read that leaves a big impression. I enjoy short stories in general, but had not before run into any of Mr. Podlipny’s work. Now that I’ve read Collision, I will certainly be looking for more by this very promising author!
