Counterfeits (An Art Theft Romantic Suspense) (Volume 1) by Kris Bock is a suspenseful romance that begins when Jenny's grandmother dies and leaves her an art camp. The camp cook, Rob, is willing to help Jenny, but he has a dark secret from his past that threatens to destroy their relationship. Speaking of dark secrets, they all start tumbling out when Jenny's father shows up after disappearing for 10 years. Rob knows where he's been and the trouble that he brings back with him. With Jenny's father comes a multitude of danger and Jenny is seriously considering whether or not her grandmother's camp is worth digging up the past and all of the secrets that come with it. She and Rob must decide whether to uncover the secrets or if this will ruin them forever.

Counterfeits is a good mystery and will keep people guessing for most of the story. In fact, I was flipping fast through pages because I wanted to know how the story ended. There were lots of secrets and lots of surprises, so that moved the pace of the plot along nicely and kept me engaged in the story. Kris Bock is a mystery mastermind and did a nice job with that aspect of the story. I also liked the complex relationships in the story. Jenny never had it easy, and it was nice to see a heroine struggle to make it work with her friends and family (like it can be in real life).
