Covered Paces by Luigi A. Juarez is the story of Linette Velazco. Living in Los Angeles, she once dreamt of being an actress, but that failed horribly. Her professional life is in the dumps and so is her personal life. She has sworn off love. In an attempt to make something of her life, she plans to start a financial planning career. But there is a lot of pressure on her from her family and from all the people around her. And there is plenty of pressure from her too. With everything that is going on around her, her concept of love is changing; people around her are changing it for her. What is love? What is “monogamy”? Is there “true love”?
Covered Paces is a wonderful novel about a woman’s struggle. You get to go on a journey with Linette, experience the world through her eyes, and see the places she goes. She is a strong character, a woman who knows what she wants and she fights for it, no matter what happens. She is no damsel in distress and I loved that about her. She is not perfect, but her flaws make her more human and approachable. The narrative was smooth; the story line had the right twists and turns to make you want to read on. You will not want to put this novel down; you will want to read till the end. It was really very good and I would love to read more from Juarez.
