After high school, I didn't have a plan. I just started working at whatever company would hire me. I didn't know my options for college, didn't know my skills or passions - I was just working. Cracking the Career Code by Tom Henricksen would have saved me about 20 years of wandering by helping me discover where my passions were and uncover which areas allowed me to perform at my best. Taking you through the questions of creating the lifestyle you want, using your past to shape your future, and whether or not college is for you, Henricksen guides you toward understanding which job is going to make you feel burdened and which job is going to make you enjoy your work.

Developing a board of advisors and mentors and committing to lifelong learning are just two of the chapters presented by Tom Henricksen in Cracking the Career Code. I'm glad that he talked about skill assessments and personality tests to learn more about yourself. The ones he mentioned - Strengthfinders, Myers Briggs, and DISC - are all excellent tools to help you discover your personality type and passions. Henricksen also talks about the strength of networking; as he puts it, "Look for givers and reciprocators, and then find ways to be of value to them." Networking is so vital. The book closes with thoughts on how to enjoy your successes every day and the four success pillars of money freedom, time freedom, relationship freedom, and service freedom.
